My body has been exhausted for five years and nobody knows why

Hi everyone, I’m posting here because I’m feeling lost and hoping someone may have gone through something similar. I’m a 36-year-old woman working in IT. Before June 2021, I was an extremely active person. I could walk 2–3 hours every day, work long office hours, travel frequently, cook all the meals, clean the house, wash utensils even at midnight, and still wake up the next day with plenty of energy. I maintained my home without any help and genuinely enjoyed being active. Everything changed after I got COVID in June 2021. I recovered at home, but I never recovered my energy. It started as fatigue, and I kept believing it would get better. Instead, over the last five years, my life has slowly changed. First, I stopped going for walks because I didn’t have the stamina. Then I stopped cleaning the house. Then I stopped cooking regularly. Today, my husband does almost all the household chores and takes care of our 1-year-old daughter because my body simply doesn’t have the strength. I mostly spend my days working and then sleeping. Even arranging one room leaves me exhausted, with severe weakness in my hands and legs. Rest doesn’t help. I wake up feeling as tired as when I went to bed. My brain isn’t the same either. I used to be sharp and energetic, but now I struggle to concentrate at work and feel like I’m losing confidence because my performance has declined. The hardest part is that this happens even when I’m not working. Recently, we went on a family trip to Munnar. Instead of enjoying the trip, I spent almost all three days sleeping in the hotel room because I didn’t have the energy to go sightseeing. That made me realize this isn’t just “work stress.” I’ve consulted general physicians, cardiologists, pulmonologists, ENT specialists, and orthopaedic doctors. I’ve had many tests. Apart from vitamin D deficiency, most reports have been normal. Several doctors have actually told me, “we don’t think you’re making this up. We believe you’re genuinely unwell, but we can’t find the reason in your reports.” In the beginning, many people around me said it was just fear after COVID or anxiety. I even questioned myself and wondered if I was imagining it. But it’s now been five years, and instead of improving, I’ve become progressively worse. Has anyone here experienced something similar after COVID? Were you eventually diagnosed with Long COVID, ME/CFS, an autonomic disorder, or something else? Did you find a doctor who finally understood what was happening? Most importantly… did you improve? I’m not looking for a diagnosis online. I’m just hoping to hear from people who have walked a similar path because, after five years of feeling like this, it’s been incredibly lonely. Thank you for reading.

That you are reaching out itself is a good sign !! Went through a very similar life course. Try getting yourself checked with a good Ayurveda doctor. I was given 14 day in patient treatment and my condition significantly improved :) try if you are interested

Many things changed physically to me as well after covid.. but u know what evrything is related to our mind.. I had severe anxiety and panic attacks still do a little.. I consulted many psychologists, tried medications but nothing worked out for me but when I realized evrything is what I'm thinking that's what my body is reacting.. try to do the same.. don't think that u don't have stamina instead tried to walk atleast half hr no matter what don't stop walking.. you will see a lot of difference

First get your self checked by Lung specialist who would examine your lungs properly . post Covid a lot of people have been diagnosed with COPD which chronic obstructive pulmonary disease .. if You feel little breathless or have constant cough cold or upper respiratory tract blocked or even walking you feel lack of breath then better get urself checked by Pulmonary specialist .. Second you can get checked by Autoimmune diseases specialist who can look into your thyroid .. autoimmune disease specifically hashimoto and graves first symptom is no energy in Body .. thyroid effect the lungs or respiratory tract and general energy level in woman's body ..

Happens. Check with a psychiatrist. Get into some yoga classes or get a personal coach in gym. Check for thyroid and ferritin levels. You have a 1 year old can be post partum adding to this. I felt the same after I had my second child. Would doze off during travels which I love. Ended up with thyroid and took treatment.

It could be depression or post stress disorder...plz check a psychiatrist too once... Also I hv heard similar things from many people who recovered from covid, perhaps due to steroid medication for treatment or lasting effects of covid... My brother isn't able to loose weight since then even after trying hard, doing physical activities,.. His tests too are normal...

Your body needs a diet fix and check your harmone levels with a good consultant to see what's wrong. Take shalaki, Ksheerabala capsules and shatavari twice a day and see the changes in your energy levels.

Keep stepping out of the house atleast once a day. Go for walks. Make sure you do this no matter how lethargic you feel. If you ignore, you will be consumed by arthritis very shortly.

Yes I have heard couple of similar cases , I advise you to fix your routine . Sleep early and wake up early . Go for a walk even if it is for 10 min . Have nutritious meals and follow some hobby . If you have a supportive husband you will be well soon .

Anonymous9 August 2026 at 9:56 am

Try Ayurveda , change your eating habits , do meditation. Keep your inner side happy and don’t think as many mentioned . It won’t change immediately take your time and you have w great husband and kid so have a lot of fun . 🙏

What you’re describing sounds very real, and the fact that multiple doctors have acknowledged your symptoms even without finding an obvious abnormality is important. Five years of severe fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and reduced ability to function is far beyond ordinary tiredness or simply being “lazy” or stressed. Long COVID is certainly one possibility worth discussing with a doctor, but there are also several other conditions that can cause persistent fatigue and exercise intolerance, and some don’t necessarily show up on routine tests. A physician experienced in post COVID conditions, internal medicine, neurology, or an appropriate specialist could potentially help look at the symptoms as a whole rather than treating each symptom separately. One thing that may be particularly important to mention to your doctor is whether physical or mental activity causes a significant worsening of symptoms hours or even a day later, rather than just making you tired in the moment. That pattern can be clinically relevant. Most importantly, please don't push yourself through severe exhaustion simply because you used to be capable of doing much more. Your previous level of activity isn't a benchmark your current body has to meet. And yes, improvement is possible for some people, although recovery can be unpredictable and unfortunately isn't always quick. I hope you find a doctor who listens to the entire five year history rather than dismissing individual test results. You deserve proper evaluation and support, even if there isn't a simple answer yet.

Check full thyroid panel. I had vit d defciency with hypothyroid causing fatigue, weight gain, mood swings, inflammation and pain in joints and muscles, morning& night sneezing episodes and lesser sleep. However, after I took siddha medicine for these conditions, report shows normal thyroid panel ,but same level of vit d, further these symptoms continue to persist only back pain has gone with siddha medication. I have asked both doctors the same, why am i having the symptoms still even though reports are clear, they said its my mindset. Maybe..i was unsure...but this is what I did and worked for me, have food in an order- Protien, fats, Carbs, Sweets ; with strength training. Symptoms have not vanished but become better, I have good sleep and better mood.

Have you tried therapy. Just go to sit & talk about yourself, your ailments vent it out. But try therapy .. at the same time.. catch the morning sun… just sit and soak it up. Take dry fruits & nuts, omega 3 , magnesium & zinc supplements. Give your body and mind time & and space to heal. If you heal you will heal physically. Dont rush. Breathe, dont fret.. just give yourself one day at a time and think you will be fine sooner. Just off chance have you checked with your obgyn if you are in early menopause.

Very simple, we are in the same boat, go to rheumatologist and check for fibromyalgia.. not so common. So not many doctors know about it

We underestimate the importance of vitamin D and Calcium. Get a complete bloodwork done. Also check your iron levels. I experienced all the things you mentioned and was constantly experiencing fatigue. Regular calcium, vitamin D and iron supplements have worked incredibly well for my energy levels. Try regular supplements after getting a complete panel bloodwork done and see if taking those supplements for three months makes a difference.

had the same. no doctor could actually diagnose anything. or not very patient enough to diagnose. it got a little bit better after i fixed my vit d and ate lesser cards for my insulin resistance. check for vit d, take supplements. standing in sun wont be enough to replenish deficiency. it can only help maintain levels check for aneamia, ferritin, b12 also check for thyroid if fatigue is more pronounced during second half of the period, check PMOS if nothing works, check for depression and see if ssri works. anything could be the cause. eliminate and check

Covid brings out dormant health issues in our body.. It's been 5 years and you also have a baby who is 1. Your body is still recovering.. As someone said, try ayurveda treatment ( Kottakkal in Chennai) or something suitable or even something like vipasana meditation where you can spend time with nature.. Also, perhaps your parents can stay with you....it helps

I’m really sorry you’ve been going through this for so many years. ❤️ What you’re describing sounds like genuine exhaustion, not simply laziness or work stress. Many people have experienced long-lasting fatigue, brain fog and weakness after COVID. It may be worth seeing a doctor who specifically understands Long COVID, ME/CFS or autonomic problems. Please don’t blame yourself just because your routine tests look normal. I hope you find someone who can finally understand what’s happening and help you feel like yourself again. It could be dipression spend more time with family frnds don't isolate yourself otherwise prblm can be worst, start meditation

Anonymous9 August 2026 at 8:31 am

Get your iron and Ferritin checked. The root cause of fatigue and brainfog.

Anonymous9 August 2026 at 10:12 am

Iron levels in the report may look normal but ferritin should be 70 at least. Iron severely affects energy. Next possible reason is depression or anxiety issues. You might not know you have it. Check if you have panic attacks anytime before. This even affects other things like thyroid level but when you get treated with a psychiatrist everything will be back to normal. 3rd possibility is autoimmune disease, get tested. Inflammation or any food allergy like milk, wheat, rice causes inflammation or weakness if you are allergic watch closely what you eat and how you feel afterwards.

Anonymous10 August 2026 at 7:03 pm

CFS is a diagnosis by exclusion, when docs don't have any other answer. It's mostly psychosomatic, rather than physiological. Many faced it post COVID. Don't fall into the trap of overthinking, self pity procrastination. Regular multivitamins, regular small movements(walk, jog, just go out) and you should be alright.

I hear you, long Covid is a symptom of many people,I have personally heard this from others as I didn't have Covid. What you are describing is seen in many, nothing to worry about. Along with long Covid, it could be the combination of work stress + depression related to losing energy+ delivery + post partum depression. I am also like you ,your pre version of Covid, hyper active and energetic always doing chores or work. Sometimes, it's exhausting and when you see yourself not doing enough,it's natural to get sad/depressed. I suggest you take ayurvedic treatment and also do yoga and meditation to heal quickly. I wish you the best ,hope you heal soon.

Check your ferretin levels. It's often not requested by doctors as people just check their Haemoglobin and think everything is ok. Iron deficiency in women is quite common especially after child birth and as age progresses. If your iron levels get sorted then your body might help process energy better. Hope this helps. Take care.

Apart from vitamin D deficiency, This is the key. Vitmain D Deficiency leads to depression and that's exactly you are facing now. Its not fatigure, its depression. Take Vitamin D supplements for a month you will reclaim your strength. In the meanwhile, go for yoga and meditation too, that will help your anxiety.
