30yrs Male, married with 3years boy kid. I came from lower middle class family and built my career out of struggles, hardwork and dedication. My parents worked very hard to give better life to me. Now i am an IT professional with decent salary staying in Bengaluru with my wife, kid and brother who is also an IT professional and yet to get married. I have taken home loan and constructing my home in my native as we had no own home. We had our own home but it was sold out by my dad because of my sisters marriage expenses. So I wanted to have own shelter for us in native where my parents stays and visit Bengaluru often. Some of my colleagues and friends have bought apartment flat in Bengaluru and asking me when I am going to buy. And they are also asking me why I am constructing house in native. Instead i could have bought a flat in Bengaluru where I am paying rent. Have I done mistake according to them or just ignore and move on as I know what are my commitments? Please provide your opinions.
Home on land is 1000x better than a matchbox flat in air.
You have done nothing wrong. Re-settling an aging parent is the best a child could do. You are absolutely fine. You can have your flat in the next 5-6 years after you repay your housing loan. Living in a rented apartment is not a shame. At least you have a shelter in your own place, it will be a big gift for your children.
You are only 30 years old. You can buy a house in 5 years too.. what’s the rush! Just ensure you plan your finances accordingly
You have done right. But make sure the house belongs to you and your parents alone. Dont share it with your unmarried brother. Because when he gets married, first thing he will do is staying separately in a different rented apartment and then buying an apartment on his own within 2 years. He will forget what you did for the whole family. You are 30 years old. So you have time. After building the house in your native, you can look for an apartment for yourself.
Bhaut accha kiya...apni roots ko surkshit kerna acchi baat h .. native place mai ek ghar hona chahiye wo aapke budape ka sahara hoga ...aap Shani se wahan reh sakte ho metro cities mai life Bhaut difficult h aage aage ...job nahi rahegi to kya survive ker paaoge banglore mai? Chote cities mai easy h life
You are right. Flats dont have real value attached to it after some time they are stuck with the price ceiling. If flat gets old you can only renovate it from inside cant do anything about the structure where as land ownership is better as you demoslish your house and rebuild it accordingly. Secondly land can create more assets like multiple flats where flat is a single unit thing. Above all money is nothing infront of families happiness. Do one thing invest in small property in pre launching they are cheap and better sell them in 6-12 months youll get a good premium do that 3-4 times youll have enough money to pay your debt and put a downpayment for a flat.
You have done the right thing, even in Bangalore don’t buy apartment instead try buying a small plot and build a house
Let the people say anything. You have taken a very right decision of constructing a house in your native place. People with apartment will never understand the luxury of having own house with land in native. Ignore them…
What you are doing is right. Since you have a job, you may need to relocate, but your parents have spent their entire lives in one place and would want to spend their final days there. Therefore, building a house for them is a good idea, but avoid making it too large, as maintaining it would be difficult for them; plus, you too would enjoy visiting them there.
U have made an emotional decision. U could have bought a flat in Bangalore itself
Ah, the old dilemma.. Build a grand home in the village for the quintessential vacation once a year (or two, once you get busy) and to showoff to your old neighbours....or, The much more sensible plan to buy an apartment (or a home/house) in the city or suburbs you actually plan to stay in (and save your rent perhaps). You are the best judge.. decide yourself.
You do what ever your concious says
Native house plan was a nice/wise one...friends unsolicited advice can wait, even for eternity.....they will realise In old age or during or post retirement the value of oxygen content in the winds in native village. But medicines wil soon outweigh them even to think properly by that time.
The mistake you’re doing is discussing your personal investment details with your colleagues. Things won’t work out the same for everybody. Every family needs are different. With good education and at 30 years old with kid you’re already capable enough of making your own decisions and handling things in ‘your’way. So stop giving weightage to random coffee conversations. Limit them to what they should be
Talking from personal experience, assuming your native is in a tier 2 tier 3 city. I chose a similar path like you and invested in a land just next to my native house. Although I had the option of opting for a flat in Bangalore, I chose the earlier option. Now, after 2 years, the value of my land is 2x and it also generates small regular rental income for me and my parents. Therefore, I would say, don't get influenced by your colleagues. Building a home or buying a land mostly generates more ROI than buying a flat in Bangalore. Wait a few more years, and you'll be able calculate the ROI.
I just hope that home is in your name not on your parents name .. because if it's in ur parents name in future ur sister may ask share
I think it was a Good decision. If you need customized financial planning for you, pla ping me. You will be definitely delighted afterwards.
