I've been talking to someone for the past couple of months through an arranged marriage setup. Initially, he seemed like a genuinely good person. During the first few days, when he wasn't sure about me, he used to put in a lot of effort—texting regularly, calling, checking up on me, and making time to stay connected. However, after some time, I started noticing a pattern. Once I told him that I was willing to move forward with the marriage, while also making it clear that I might need some time to emotionally open up and become closer to him, he agreed and seemed to understand. But gradually, his behaviour changed. He started texting only once a day or calling perhaps once a week, and whenever I asked him about it, he would say that he was extremely busy and couldn't manage his time. What confuses me is that whenever I express affection towards him or show that I'm emotionally interested, he suddenly seems much more interested and somehow manages to find the time. This makes me wonder whether his interest is genuinely emotional and mental, or whether he is more motivated by physical closeness and intimacy. Is this a normal pattern in a relationship, especially in an arranged marriage situation, or is it something I should be concerned about? How can I understand whether he genuinely wants to build an emotional connection with me or is primarily interested in physical closeness?

Don’t judge his intentions solely by how often he texts or calls, but pay attention to his consistency. Someone who genuinely wants to marry you should be willing to build an emotional connection, respect your pace, and communicate openly. Have an honest conversation about your expectations and observe whether his actions match his words. Notice whether he shows interest in your feelings, thoughts, and daily life even when physical intimacy isn’t involved. Don’t rush into marriage hoping his behaviour will change. Take your time, establish boundaries, and make your decision based on consistent actions rather than occasional attention.
