M (29) | Should I consider moving abroad for better career growth, or continue building my career in India? I’m 29 and currently working for a real estate MNC in a Tier-1 city in India, as part of the sales team. My role is primarily around account management, closing deals, and maintaining relationships with commercial real estate brokers. I completed my undergraduate degree and have been working ever since. I’ve now been with my current company for almost 5 years. The situation I’m thinking about is this: I’m currently living quite far away from my family because of work. My family is based in a Tier-2/3 city, and realistically, I don’t think I can find the same kind of role or career opportunities there. My current job also does not offer a WFH option, so if I want to continue in this field and earn a decent income, I will probably have to remain in a larger city anyway. This has made me think — if I’m already going to live away from my family for work, why not explore opportunities outside India as well? I’ve particularly been thinking about Singapore, although I’m also considering Dubai and potentially other countries. From a practical point of view, countries like Singapore or Dubai are still relatively accessible from India. Depending on where I’m based and where my family is, travelling home could potentially take around 5–6 hours by flight, which doesn’t feel drastically different from the amount of time I already spend being away from home. My primary reasons for considering this are: * Better overall lifestyle and quality of life * Potentially better compensation and savings * Better long-term career opportunities * The possibility of achieving financial independence/retiring earlier * Getting international work experience while I’m still relatively young However, I’m not sure whether this is the right way to think about my career at this stage. I also have some concerns: 1. Is moving abroad, particularly to Singapore, a sensible career decision for someone in commercial real estate sales/account management? 2. Would my current experience of almost 5 years in an Indian real estate MNC be valuable in Singapore/Dubai? 3. Should I first try for an internal transfer within my current company? I’m not sure how much interest my company would have in transferring me internationally. 4. Is an internal transfer generally easier than applying directly to companies abroad? 5. If I decide to seriously pursue Singapore, what would be the best way to plan the transition — recruiters, LinkedIn, direct applications, internal mobility, networking, etc.? 6. For someone in my position, would Singapore actually provide a significantly better financial outcome after considering taxes, rent, cost of living, and savings? 8. Would you recommend making this move before marriage, after marriage, or only after securing a sufficiently good offer? I’m not expecting to become rich overnight. My goal is to make a calculated long-term career decision that allows me to build wealth, have a good quality of life, support my future family, and potentially achieve financial independence earlier. Would appreciate advice from people who have made a similar move, particularly those who have moved from India → Singapore/Dubai in real estate, sales, account management, or related fields. Is this a sensible career path to explore, and if yes, how would you approach the move from India?

As I stay in Singapore, i can say moving to either Singapore/Dubai would be a great option for few below reasons - 1) Better quality of life. 2) Clean air quality. 3) Better exposure and professionalism compared to companies in India. 4) Taxes. Singapore has very low tax rate and Dubai is tax free. 5) Opportunity to work with diverse nationalities. Etc etc... Just keep in mind, Singapore is quite costly and don't come below 10k monthly salary. Dubai is quite cheap considered to Singapore. All the best for your future endeavours.
Bhai 29 is the best age to take this risk. If family ko ghar se door rehna hi hai, toh better pay + international experience ke liye Singapore/Dubai try kar le. Internal transfer pehle check kar, safer rahega. Aur haan shaadi se pehle move karna easier hota hai.
