The VCDP pool generally means you are currently without an active project allocation and are being kept in an internal pool while the company looks for a suitable assignment. It does not automatically mean that you have lost your job. However, the bigger concern here is the job abandonment issue. Leaving without informing your manager/HR can create disciplinary and employment record complications, especially if formal warning letters have already been issued. Since you have now returned and are reporting to office, the best thing is to communicate transparently with HR and your manager, acknowledge what happened, and ask them clearly about your employment status, notice period requirements and the process for getting allocated to a project. Don't rely only on what colleagues say about the VCDP pool. Ask HR for written clarification on whether you are still an active employee and what conditions you need to fulfil to get a project. At this stage, don't panic and don't resign impulsively. Try to resolve the abandonment case first and focus on getting yourself allocated. Your future employment will depend much more on how Cognizant formally closes this matter than on the fact that you are temporarily in a pool.
