Female 29+ I need an unbiased opinion from people who aren't emotionally involved. Today was my last working day before my maternity leave. It's been a difficult pregnancy, and after weeks of discussions, medical appointments, WFH approvals, and handovers, I finally wrapped everything up. I completed my knowledge transfer, sent all the necessary emails, and informed my manager that my maternity leave would begin on Monday. My manager wished me well, said, "All the best, enjoy the journey," which I genuinely appreciated. But then she added, "You can leave our WhatsApp group so that you won't get distracted." I know it sounds like a small thing, but that one sentence stayed with me. I'm not resigning. I'm only going on maternity leave for six months and will be rejoining the same team. Part of me wondered why I needed to leave the group at all. I could simply mute it and avoid checking work messages. It made me question whether she wanted me out of the group or whether she was genuinely encouraging me to disconnect from work and focus on my pregnancy. I thanked everyone, sent a farewell message, and left the group, but I couldn't stop overthinking it. Am I reading too much into this? Is it normal for managers to ask employees on maternity leave to leave the team WhatsApp group, or would you also find it a little strange? I'd really appreciate honest perspectives, especially from people who've been on maternity leave or have managed teams.
I have had two mat leaves in the same team. During the first one, I was intermittently checking teams and even did one assignment cuz the client wanted it . My boss didn’t encourage nor appreciate it So during the second one I deleted teams and outlook until i rejoined Could be because either she thinks you could be someone who is a workaholic and may find it hard to disconnect OR she may have had her own experience if she is a mom too All in all I don’t think she meant harm - but most importantly- leave what she said why she said and enjoy you pregnancy Sleep as much as you can 😛 You’re life is going to change and get more beautiful so enjoy every bit of it Good luck
Depending on your dependencies they can release you from the project. When you rejoin the org it’s not necessary you would join the same project it may happen you are assigned to a new project or the same project depending on requirement.
You actually proved her point why she asked you to leave that group😬 She did right!!!!
So,u totally disconnect and enjoy motherhood..else u would still be in the project virtually
Pregnancy is all about thinking positive and being happy. May be the manager had also gone through pregnancy and she wants you to focus on your pregnancy rather than work for now.
Even if you she tells you to leave the job which is not allowed by law...it's not the only job on earth....with your given skills you can get more jobs ...opportunities are unlimited .. girl...enjoy your maternity leave ...this won't come back...
Most managers are suspicious of back up plans...what if you may be working from home from another company, what if you are unable to get back for whatever reason yet know all that's going on in the company and so on. Can't really blame them. Take it a step at a time. Focus on your pregnancy and delivery for now.
Dont overthink & over analyze. You are in a very good state mentally & physically. Continue doing whats good for you & the baby. Rest & Relax. Work wont run away. It will go on. Learn to prioritize things. You come first now. Let go
People are already predicting termination from one WhatsApp sentence.... 😂 Thoda relax karo..... She’s on maternity leave so obviously she won’t be actively working with the team for six months..... The manager may simply want her to disconnect instead of seeing work messages every day...... If there are actual warning signs after she returns then deal with those..... For now don’t manufacture a problem where there may be none..... You’ve got a much more important job coming up becoming a mother.....❤️ Enjoy the leave switch off from work and let the WhatsApp group survive without you. 😄
They may release u from the project. Mostly no one holds u for 6 months.
Not many managers are trained on dealing with nuances of such leaves, you stay on .. just disable notifications.. Maybe she was helping but you never know
Ur may not be billable to that project and some other resource might be working in that place and they might do it for security reasons as ur not currently working for it..avanga polish ah sonnalum nalla vithama sonnalam it's not wrong.Work place is always a work place not a home to think emotionally.u work ll be always replaced by someone else.u may get into some other project when u return back based on requirements
It’s very normal.
No wonder, you are pregnant and over analysing things is a part of this condition, been there. It’s not at all something to worry about at all, Whatsapp groups are internal , not official. She meant well for you, so that you can have a smooth and tension free trimester. Stay healthy and happy.
What’s app group is official group? If he told you get of office communicator or distribution list then fine he is in feel of releasing you.
This is normal. She thought good for you.
Don't overthink, relax it seems she told you in a good way.
no need to be in the group as u will no longer work in the same project...after maternity policy will say u shud be taken in by same project but at the same time they shud have an open position for u in the project else u will be moved to bench after few days u join back from leave...so they wud have thought u may or may not be part of the team and why shud u knw unwanted things during ur leave which is more imp for u than office
Just overthink its normal to ask u leave the project group.. Why they would share some project info to person who is not part of project
She suggested you to leave the group instead of kicking you out
I would have felt exactly the same way as you are feeling right now.
Doesn't matter what she meant, you disconnect from work and focus on your health and your baby, if your employer wants to discriminate against you post maternity, they will do it anyways, no amount of you staying connected to the work would stop them. My employer was giving me boring projects post maternity, I left after 4 months and joined a new company where they don't have any preconceived notions about me. I would suggest that if you get time during mat leave, prepare for job interviews and change your job soon after, don't waste that time obsessing about what your current employer wants from you
We shouldn't be part of the group when we are not working for that team actively. But it is also a common feeling what u feel when quitting the whatsapp group.
ये औरत कितना सोचती है
How does anything matter to you now? You are going to be in a different world now.Its common to ask you to leave group as you are not part of Team now.Stop overthinking.Take things as it comes .
Dont think too much madam. Baby is your first priority. Think in a positive way and enjoy the maternity leave and give birth to amazing and intelligent boy or girl.
You’re reading too much into it.
she told for good
It’s a practice followed to give the new mom space from work.. maternity in India is like 6 months in most companies, situation might arise where a replacement was required , when official group is for office conversations its a practice to have it for intended folks. You are definitely overthinking in this aspect
God bless the manager 🥰🥰
never trust on girls................................
She does not want you to be distracted.
Just sharing my experience. The same happened with me.in fact he removed me out of the group and politely texted me separately that he did that a that I can concentrate on family and not involved in ofc things and be bothered in any ways.... And also said that this is done to everybody who goes on long leave... BUTTT when I came back from leave he said that with a 6 month old baby it would be very difficult to manage shifts and his project. But at the same time he helped me a good project and I am happily settled now in a different project in the same company. But I never got back to the WhatsApp group 😆
You have a great manager. She gave you the option to leave instead of taking you out. This is a cultural FOMO we have that we need to get rid of. Anywhere else, this would seem absolutely normal.
Administration can remove you from whatsapp grp so I don't believe the post
Dont overtjink. Just thank god to get the manager like that
Dear the writing is on the wall. The moment you return back you will be terminated. They will give you a lame performance excuse and you are gone. Sorry to rip off the band aid.
Same thing with me but here the manager himself removed me from groups and when asked stated that will add again once I join back. Though it looks weird but we have to accept the fact we should look after ourselves.
You shouldn't have left the group. Anyways don't overthink it. Focus on your pregnancy.
She is wise and you are over thinker.
