My husband cheated and now sleeps in a locked bedroom

It's a long story but I will try to keep it short. Me and my husband are married for 10 years now and have 2 kids - a girl (8 years) and a boy (1 year). Since I have as pregnant in 2025, we have been sleeping in different rooms as he is a big built guy and was afraid of me getting hurt while sleeping. Had an affair for not sure how long but I found out when my baby boy was 1 month old. Begged me to not call it off and promised me to change but still stayed in separate rooms as I had no schedule of sleeping because of the baby and he wanted to get his precious sleep. Cut to when my baby turned 10 months old and I asked him to move back in the same room as the baby now has a proper sleep routine. He moved backed for 20 days and then he made an excuse and moved out to a different room again. Now i struggle with 2 kids and he comes from his work, plays games for 3-4 hrs and then sleeps with his room locked. When I talk to him about him falling out of love.....he becomes defensive and starts explaining and sorries and what not. What should I do?

It seems like he has created a separate world for himself, even though he lives in the same house. If he comes from office and plays games for 3-4 hours without spending time with the kids, that’s a big red flag. Try talking to him. Remind him he’s not just a sp**m donor. This is his family. He needs to share responsibility as a father and as a husband. But if nothing changes and he’s emotionally gone, then I’m sorry — there’s not much you can do. Clinging to someone who’s “not there” will only drain you of your peace and happiness. You and your children don’t deserve this. I really hope things get sorted between you two.

You are definitely going through a difficult time. For a moment also think about him. Maybe too much stress at work where he needs to unwind by playing games etc. Please have an open conversation what he wants to contribute to family. Immediately don't react or don't conclude. Think about it for few days and then decide

This is what most men do. Give babies and escape the parenting responsibility. I think it is the women who should decide about having babies. Leave the kids to your husband, lock your bedroom and sleep. Don't flinch even a bit. Let him figure out what to do with the kids. You need to care for your well being first. Call your parents and make them stay at your home to support you and also see his behaviour. Dump one after the other domestic responsibility in him and you make him busy at home. It is not something impossible. Many women do this once they reach the burntout time. Words don't work in marriage. Slow and steady actions make it work. Also, please learn that sleeping in separate rooms in nothing wrong. It is scientifically proven that people sleep better alone rather with someone next to them. As long as you don't give him time to look around distractions, you can manage your life. Meanwhile, if you are not working, upskill your self and start looking for jobs. Being a wife and mother alone is not the purpose of life.

You can't do much if 1. You are not financially independent &/ 2. Have supportive parents/siblings --- You can find job Give custody of kids to him And leave --- If you already have own money (earnings, savings, inheritance) which you think is sufficient to raise kids on your own, Then divorce. --- Men passionately cry on internet about injustice of alimony, But I have never seen any woman who has gotten child support from man 'easily'. It's years and years of struggle of going to court.

Your assumptions about him falling out of love aren't illogical. Some men care far more about their image in society than facing the reality of their failing marriage and their suffering spouse. Cheating is bad, but cheating on your wife while she's pregnant or has just given birth is a whole new level of disgusting. He doesn't want to break up the family, but he also doesn't want to fully contribute to the marriage. That's the reality and it probably won't get any better than this. Divorce may be the best option, but if it's not practical right now, try to get him to hire some help to take care of the kids. Detach yourself emotionally from him and focus on yourself and your children.

Marriage is just for name now sleeping in different rooms means he had given up on you now he might be having affair outside

Anonymous7 August 2026 at 10:16 am

TBH he is being selfish.

Shoot a nasty fake allegation and take your righteous share of his assets. Invest those for the future and in the meantime demand alimony. He will pay for his grave mistakes like marrying, having kids and having an affair.

For society reputation ,he is maintaing you and kids . Otherwise he is very happy elsewhere. Totally shuffled cards...May be you can speak to his parents or relatives. Might help. Else as you walk your path will appear

Ever since i got pregnant, my husband left my room and never came back for years giving lame excuses every now and then , slowly we grew apart with frequent quarrels and differences and i left with my 3 year old baby for 5years ,... now i returned again on repeated requests, but i no longer want to be in the same room as my husband, though i never had or have anyone in my life beside my husband ever. But I just see him now as my child's father and not my husband.. Now my world is around my child knowing that he has his father with him. I will not say I'm happy but neither sad like those days when I had expectations from him as husband
