I lost my family trying to please my son's bully

I am a 48-year-old Russian woman. In 2025, my husband, son, and I moved to the United States. Soon after, my son became the target of constant bullying from a classmate who mocked him because of his Russian background. My son came home crying many times, telling me how he was insulted, humiliated, and physically attacked. I was furious and decided to confront the bully’s family. However, instead of handling the situation properly, I became emotionally confused and started seeking the bully’s approval. He manipulated me, insulted my country, and made me feel powerful and important at the same time. I even began lying to my husband and spending money to gain his attention. Eventually, the situation became much worse. The boy seriously injured my son, and when I confronted him, he recorded our argument without my knowledge. The recording was shared around the school, exposing my poor decisions and the way I had failed to protect my own child. My husband divorced me, and I lost custody of my son. My husband and son returned to Russia, while I stayed in the United States with the person who caused so much pain. I lost my family because I confused manipulation with affection and attention with love. I regret not standing firmly beside my son when he needed me most.

A heartbreaking reminder that attention and manipulation can never replace genuine love. A parent’s first responsibility is to protect their child. Sadly, she realized it only after losing everything. 💔
