A bizarre event that happened to me When I was in my final year of college, I went through a truly bizarre experience. It all happened one lethargic summer afternoon in the student dormitory where I lived. While I was lying on my stomach in bed, recovering from a party the night before, a girl—who had also attended the party—sat on my lower back and began to massage my upper back. During the massage, I bent my legs at the knees and playfully patted her back with the soles of my bare feet, as if I were massaging her in return. She chuckled, finding it amusing. It was a comfortable, easygoing moment. However, while I was patting her, I felt her necklace with my toes. She had turned the necklace around to her back while massaging me so that it wouldn't get in the way. The necklace had a small medallion that I inadvertently tangled between my third and fourth toes, along with a few strands of her long hair, which was tied in a ponytail. A mischievous impulse took hold of me. I held onto it, refusing to let go. She turned around, still sitting on my lower back but now facing the opposite direction, with the sole of my foot right in front of her face. She grasped my foot with one hand while using the other to try and untangle the chain and medallion from my toes. I laughed at her futile attempts, playfully maintaining my grip despite her pleas to let go before the chain broke or her hair got pulled further. Her pleas only fueled my amusement. To put it mildly, she was just a girl for one night. A former cheerleader and one-time pole dancer at a strip club, she was one of those people who simply drifted through college parties. I didn't particularly respect her, but she was... available, and sometimes that was enough. She was of medium height and well-built. Her face wasn't what you'd call pretty, save for one truly noticeable feature: when she stretched her lips into a smile, she would reveal an impressive, beautiful set of exceptionally large and strong teeth. My playful game came to an abrupt halt when I felt her long, sharp nails begin to scratch across the toes holding the chain, and then along my sole. Afraid that she would scratch my foot and ruin my toes, I immediately loosened my grip, allowing her to free the chain. I took great care of my feet, paying almost obsessive attention to detail. I was practically at the beginning of my career as a foot model. I had very nice toes. My big toe was a distinctly striking feature: very large, nicely shaped, significantly longer than the second toe, and exceptionally dominant. Art directors and photographers loved it. I had already appeared in several magazines and commercials for men's sandals, mainly toe-loop sandals and flip-flops. But the game wasn't over. The moment the chain was free, she unexpectedly seized my foot with both hands. Before I could even register what was happening, she bit down on my big toe! A crushing pain exploded through my foot. I saw a bright flash in front of my eyes. The pain was instantaneous and excruciating, unlike anything I had ever felt before. A raw, involuntary scream tore from my throat. I was screaming at the top of my lungs. The pain was so intense that I felt my eyeballs bulge, threatening to pop out of their sockets. I nearly fainted. In the ensuing chaos, the bookshelf beside my bed, overloaded with textbooks, somehow dislodged and struck her. The sudden impact caused her to release my toe, and I was finally able to yank my foot free. All of this happened within a maximum of six to eight seconds. I ended up in the hospital. The doctors confirmed that the injury was extremely severe. The big toe bone was badly crushed just below the upper joint—slightly more than half of the toe. Her upper and lower teeth met at the bite site The top half of the big toe looked almost separated. My big toe had little chance of being saved. The doctor said that girl had an astonishingly strong bite and that she almost bit my big toe clean off. I was in a state of profound shock, scared and desperate. By some miracle, the medical team managed to save my toe. The recovery was an agonizingly long ordeal. Even now, many years later, my big toe sometimes still hurts, often goes numb and has limited mobility. An ugly scar remains on it. During the trial, she painted herself as the victim, reacting defensively to the 'assault' of my foot. Her portrayal of herself as a victim of violence was at the highest level. She managed to get out of everything without any consequences. I’ve replayed that event in my head a thousand times. I am most disappointed in myself as a man because I didn't even try to free my foot—I was just screaming, and I let a w...e who was a head shorter than me completely overpower me. I didn't do anything to defend myself, only an incredibly lucky circumstance saved me.
This confession highlights a jarring transition from playful, boundary-testing control to a sudden, catastrophic loss of physical and professional agency. The author entered the interaction with a clear sense of superiority—both in his physical posture and his dismissive attitude toward the woman. By holding her necklace and hair hostage as a joke, he assumed he was in control of a harmless game. He did not anticipate that a minor physical provocation would trigger a devastating, career-altering response.
The deepest lingering trauma here is not just the permanent physical impairment of a highly valued asset, but the collapse of the author’s self-image. His retrospective anger is directed inward, rooted in the expectation that he should have physically dominated or defended himself against someone smaller. This friction between expected masculine defense and the paralyzing reality of sudden, extreme pain reveals how quickly physical vulnerability can shatter one's sense of identity and security, leaving scars that are psychological as much as physical.

That sounds like a genuinely traumatic experience. Whatever happened beforehand, biting someone hard enough to cause a devastating injury is far beyond a harmless prank. Don’t blame yourself for freezing—when faced with sudden extreme pain, a fight-or-flight response can become simply freeze.
Your behavior was clearly inappropriate. She repeatedly asked you to stop and you deliberately ignored her because you found it amusing. Your lack of respect for her doesn't justify that. What she did was definitely disproportionate, but you're not innocent here. Maybe don't mess with women you clearly don't respect if you don't want them to bite back. Simple 🤷♀️ Don't act like you're the only victim here after making someone feel unsafe and crossing boundaries first. The fact that you're only upset about not being able to defend yourself, rather than reflecting on what you did that led to the incident, says a lot about you.
