Hi, i am a 31 year old male, Newzealand citizen working as software engineer in Auckland. I am 6 ft tall, fair colour, and have a decent paying job. My parents started to look for matches and i met this girl couple of times and felt good. I think we both will be compatible. It’s been two weeks since this process began. About her, she is good looking, childish (which i like in her the most), uses make up products a lot (She told she uses 6 layers of make up), but she looks good without makeup up too. The thing is i wear a hair patch. I used to have long hair at back and good hair at front but hair started thinning badly on top/middle of head since 3 years ago and i decided to use a patch to look good. My patch looks natural and no one will be able to identify until i tell them. And i wear it all the time everyday. I have always taken care of how i look and still do today, but hair is unfortunately not in my hands as it is a genetic thing in family. I don’t want to go transplant route as I don’t have confidence it will work because my issue is genetic, plus I don’t want to use minoxidil and finasteride tablets for life as they have notable side effects. I am planning to tell the girl in the next meet as I don’t want to keep it as secret too long. I want to respect her time and the match making process. So, looking to hear from people on their experiences and advices. What do you think the response will be and wish me luck, haha. Also, for context her father is bald as well. But she is an admirer of beauty.
This situation highlights a fascinating double standard in modern dating and beauty standards. While his match openly shares her use of "six layers of makeup" as a routine cosmetic enhancement, the writer feels a heavy burden of disclosure regarding his hair patch. Both individuals are actively managing their appearance through external tools, yet hairpieces for men carry a unique social vulnerability and stigma that makeup rarely does.
By planning to disclose this early in the matchmaking process, he is balancing personal vulnerability with respect for the process. Interestingly, the match's familiarity with baldness through her father, combined with her own heavy investment in cosmetic presentation, suggests she might understand the effort that goes into curated appearances. However, the anxiety of revealing a perceived physical "flaw" highlights how deeply tied hair is to male confidence. This choice represents a pivot from presenting an ideal image to testing whether the connection can handle the vulnerability of real-life imperfections.

As someone who has seen friends with patches - no one can tell until you tell. But in arranged marriage, honesty is non-negotiable. You telling her now shows you respect her time and you are serious. That's a green flag for any girl. Most girls care more about honesty and how you treat them than 100% natural hair. Go ahead, tell her calmly. Good luck!
The most important thing here is not the hair patch itself, but honesty and timing. Hair loss is extremely common and there is nothing inherently wrong with choosing a patch if it makes you feel more confident. Just as she has the freedom to use makeup because it makes her feel good, you have the freedom to manage hair loss in a way that suits you. Since you are already considering marriage, telling her before things become emotionally serious is the right approach. You don't need to present it as a confession or something shameful. Simply explain that you have genetic hair loss, that you use a hair patch, and that you intend to continue using it. Give her the opportunity to process that information and decide for herself. At the same time, don't assume that because she wears makeup or admires beauty, she will necessarily reject you. Attraction is personal, and she may care much more about your personality, compatibility, values and how you treat each other. One thing I would avoid is comparing her makeup use with your hair patch defensively. Makeup is generally temporary, whereas a hair patch is something you use continuously, so the important issue is simply whether both of you are comfortable with each other's choices and expectations. If she accepts it, great. If she doesn't, it may hurt, but finding out now is far better than after marriage. And if she rejects you solely because of hair loss, that doesn't mean there is something wrong with you, it simply means the two of you have different preferences. Tell her calmly, confidently and without apologising. You are not disclosing a character flaw, you are disclosing something relevant to a potential life partner. The fact that you're choosing to be upfront after only two weeks is actually a good sign of respect for her and for the relationship.
No one can predict her reaction. You won't know how she feels unless you tell her. Don't worry about it. No matter how she reacts, it will only work in your favour. Being honest about it early on is a good thing on your end. Good luck to you!
Hi the hair patch does not define you or is not your identity. Just like girls use makeup, nail extension, hair extension and what not. Please consider this as an accessory and don’t be ashamed of this. This is not something to be so much dicey over. Also, I would suggest let her know this when a lot of conversation and emotional attachment has happened. Then just tell this to her normally. Post that see if she judges you on this basis, YOU ARE SAVED.
She will leave unless you make substantially higher income or she has substantially high beauty
Go for hair weaving, I guess it’s different from transplant and also this is something a deal breaker so you need to tell upfront.
A clean shaven head suits many. Try that look if you’re into it! Always better to share this as soon as you can, with the person. If someone genuinely wants to be with you then hair possibly cannot be a show stopper. Be done with sharing this without any qualms as soon as you can and do it as a matter-of-fact conversation, don’t sound like it’s a flaw you have!
Confess and be honest straight upfront it will give you confidence going forward as well .
The fact before he mentioned his hair thinning and him using hair patch he had to mention she wears makeup and 6 layer makeup. How is it related..her wearing makeup and his missing hair are not equal. I'm glad he doesn't want to hide it as he can't hide it in a long run anyway.
Nature said you don't need hair. Please don't try to fight nature and embrace it. Stop trying to hide it in general, not only with her.
Hahaha Women can wear fake eye lashes, fake nails, can fix their complexion with base, can fix their shape with shapers, and a man is not supposed to question it all. But, a man is supposed to be upfront if he is wearing a patch. How sad, but also, how true. Do it brother, pull the trigger.
Confess...but honest in relationship 😊
Don't hide. Go ahead
i feel you are more interested in beauty…. because you have laid a lot of emphasis on her beauty and make up rather than her nature!
She will leave you
Funny how many women here talk about honesty, but won’t go makeup free, or wash their face in public. Half of them would add 2-10 filters to make their pictures look better than how they look… but a man has to be honest… haha
