I am leaving my husband after twelve years of betrayal

Sorry for this long confession. I know some of the words may sound harsh, but I have been silently suffering for a long time. I cannot speak about this face-to-face, so I am expressing my feelings here. I once considered a man my husband and trusted him completely. Later, I discovered that he had an inappropriate relationship with another married woman and had a child with her. I was unaware of this for a long time. Because we did not have a child, he slowly started ignoring me. I kept believing that everything would become better if we had a baby, so I went through several medical treatments and emotionally blamed myself for everything. When I finally discovered the truth, I realised how much I had been deceived. After that, he began mentally harassing me and pushing me out of the house in different ways. There were situations where I was locked out, denied basic support and made to feel unwanted and unsafe. I asked him to give me back my belongings and jewellery and allow me to move on peacefully. Instead, he started making unreasonable demands regarding our property and my jewellery. He told me that the property purchased after our marriage should belong to him, while I should accept only limited financial support. He said that because he earns more than me, my contribution was insignificant. He also promised that he might buy me a flat in the future after clearing his debts. At the same time, he continues to maintain an expensive lifestyle involving parties, trips and other personal expenses. However, when it comes to settling his debts, he expects me to sacrifice my property, jewellery and financial security. My jewellery was pledged for loans, and I have been repeatedly pressured to give up my legal rights. I was told that if I did not accept a settlement, the case could be dragged on for years. I filed a case because I felt that I had no other option. Unfortunately, the legal process has caused me even more emotional and financial stress. I paid a large amount to my lawyer, but even after a long time, I did not receive proper support or even my basic requirements. Later, the lawyer began working with the opposite side. Now I am being pressured to settle everything by transferring property, accepting a small amount of money and closing all the cases. I am exhausted and emotionally broken. I may appear strong outside, but inside I am struggling every day. I have suffered panic attacks, trembling, fear and several health problems. Even when I posted an anonymous confession online only to find emotional relief, it was traced and used to create further problems for me. I want to ask him one question: What more do you want from me? Was it not wrong to deceive the woman who trusted you? Was it not wrong to emotionally and financially exploit me? Was it not wrong to leave me without support after making promises? Was it not wrong to create situations that made me feel unsafe and unwanted? I have never tried to destroy his life, even though I have evidence that could create serious problems for him. I could share videos, audios and other details publicly, but I have chosen not to do so because I want peace, not revenge. I am walking away after twelve years of love, trust and emotional pain. I do not want anything connected to him anymore. I only want a peaceful life, a safe place to live, a job, financial independence and the freedom to exist without being judged or controlled. I wanted a family, a child, a loving husband and a peaceful home. Instead, I was pushed into a situation where I had to give up all those dreams and fight for my basic rights. I have spent years believing that everything was my fault. I kept forgiving, adjusting and trying to save the relationship. But I finally understood that I cannot continue sacrificing my mental health and future for someone who does not value me. I am not asking for revenge. I am not trying to harm anyone. I only want what legally belongs to me—my house, my jewellery, my belongings and a fair settlement. I am over 30 now, and I am scared about starting my life again. But I believe I can still rebuild myself. I will work, earn, rent a home and create a peaceful life of my own. To those who hear only his side of the story, you may believe whatever you want. You may assume that I caused all the problems or that I am responsible for his financial situation. But the truth is known to those who have experienced what happened. The legal system has been extremely difficult. Everything seems to revolve around money, while the emotional suffering of a woman is often ignored. A woman who is hurt is expected to remain silent, adjust and accept everything. I am tired of being blamed for asking for justice. I am tired of being judged for speaking about my pain. I am tired of being treated as though I have no rights. I am leaving because I want to protect my life and mental health. I do not want to fight forever. I do not want revenge. I only want to heal and move forward. I hope one day I will have a peaceful home, a stable job and people around me who genuinely care about me. Everything will be alright. It is difficult and frightening now, but I will survive. I will rebuild my life and find peace. Thank you for reading this long confession. I apologise for the harsh words. I have suffered silently for a long time, and these emotions finally came out. Please do not misuse this confession or target anyone. I only wanted a safe space to express what I have been carrying inside.

Editorial PerspectiveThe Corporate Confessions Editorial Team

The Price of Peace

This confession highlights a devastating paradox often faced in high-conflict divorces: the exhausting trade-off between pursuing legal justice and protecting one’s mental health. The writer is caught in a system where fighting for her rightful property and jewelry subjects her to prolonged trauma, financial drain, and even betrayal by her own legal counsel.

The central tension lies in what she must sacrifice to obtain peace. While she possesses evidence that could potentially shift the power dynamic, she consciously chooses not to weaponize it, prioritizing emotional healing over retaliation. Yet, the alternative—safeguarding her financial future—forces her to remain entangled in a hostile process that actively exacerbates her panic attacks and fear.

Ultimately, this situation underscores how the legal framework often treats divorce as a purely financial transaction, ignoring the asymmetrical emotional toll. The writer's struggle is not just against an uncooperative spouse, but against a reality where walking away with nothing may be the only way to reclaim her safety.

Things Worth Thinking About

  • How can someone evaluate when the emotional cost of fighting for a fair settlement outweighs the material benefit?
  • When the legal system fails to protect a vulnerable party, what alternative forms of support are most critical for rebuilding?
  • How does holding unused evidence of betrayal affect a person's sense of agency during a hostile separation?

Aapne bahut kuch saha hai. 12 saal ki betrayal aur emotional pain ke baad apni peace aur independence choose karna selfish nahi hai. Revenge nahi, apne rights aur healing ke liye stand lena bilkul valid hai. Stay strong—you can rebuild your life. ❤️

U yourself hv already found the best solution ( last 3 paragraphs ). Leave what is not meant for you, move on, one day you'll surely get what you want. Peace is bound to come if u calm down, control & guide your mind towards a positive healing approach. Don't look behind, don't repent. Just restart.

If what you've described is accurate, I don't think the focus should be on whether you can prove your pain to strangers online. After twelve years of betrayal, conflict and financial disputes, your priority should be protecting your safety, finances and future. At this stage, avoid publicly sharing private recordings, messages, names or accusations, even if you have evidence. Let your lawyer use relevant evidence through the proper legal process. Also, if you genuinely believe your current lawyer has acted against your interests, consider getting an independent second opinion from another qualified family/property lawyer before signing any settlement, transferring property or withdrawing cases. Most importantly, don't agree to a settlement simply because you're exhausted. Exhaustion can make an unfair compromise look like the easiest way out. At the same time, don't reject a reasonable settlement purely out of anger. Ask an independent lawyer to explain exactly what rights you may have, what you're giving up, the consequences of closing each case, and whether the proposed settlement protects your long term financial security. Your statement that you want peace rather than revenge is actually the most important part of this entire confession. Hold on to that. You don't need to win against him in every possible way, you need to come out of this situation safe, financially secure and emotionally free. And please don't think being over 30 means your life is over. Twelve years have already been spent. You don't have to spend the next twelve proving what happened to the people who refuse to believe you. Build your independence one step at a time, secure your documents and finances, get competent legal advice, maintain a support system, and give yourself permission to heal. If the panic, fear and trembling are continuing, please also consider speaking with a mental health professional. Legal battles can be exhausting, and getting emotional support is not weakness. You don't need to have your entire future figured out today. Sometimes rebuilding your life begins with simply deciding that you will no longer sacrifice your peace to keep a broken relationship alive.

Sister, please do 3 things urgently: 1. Change your lawyer if he is working with opposite side. Contact local District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) - they give free legal help to women. 2. Don't transfer any property or jewellery under emotional pressure. Streedhan is legally only yours. Property after marriage - you have right. 3. Document everything - medical records of panic attacks, proof of being locked out, jewellery pledge papers. Keep copies safe with someone you trust. You don't need revenge, you need peace and justice. Focus on financial independence first - a job, a rented place. The rest will follow. You are much stronger than you think.

Hugs to you. Sorry you had to go through this. Women are entitled to lawyers from government for free, please check on that. I Know how bad the legal system is, but there is hope in the end, and I hope you get justice.

Just be thankful you did not bring a child into this messy situation that itself is a big blessing. The poor baby would have suffered for no reason.

Hello Dear Friend You do not need to apologize for a single word of this confession. What you have endured over these twelve years—the profound betrayal, the emotional cruelty, the medical and financial exploitation, and the systemic failure of those who were supposed to protect you—is a crushing weight for any human being to carry alone. Your anger, your pain, and your exhaustion are not "harsh words." They are the honest, valid cries of a woman who was systematically pushed to her absolute limits and decided, finally, that her life and soul are worth saving. Starting over in your 30s feels terrifying, but it is also a clean slate free from constant fear, manipulation, and disrespect. You are educated, resilient, and clear-headed enough to see the truth. The life you dreamed of—a peaceful home, financial independence, and genuine respect—is still entirely possible. You survived twelve years of emotional warfare; you have everything it takes to build a quiet, beautiful life on your own terms. Take a deep breath. You are walking into the light, and step by step, you will be alright.

Now don't rent a home for yourself. Start looking to purchase a home for yourself. A very small home is also okay. But it should be solely on your name.

Honestly this is the reality of most divorces in India, but men will continue to cry about paying little bit of alimony. He took away 12 years of your life. If I were you, I would not leave him for deceiving my trust for 12 long years. I would not divorce him and I would continue to live in the same house which he pays for. At this point, it's not even about right or wrong. It's about what is rightfully yours and should stay yours.

In India there is no concept of 'community property' or 'marital assets'. Self earned properties are ONLY self's. Right to 'residence' DOESN'T mean right in 'ownership'. You can be co-owner of the property on paper but still you CAN'T make claim to it unless 1. You have actually paid for it && 2. You have proofs of those payments These two paper trails are MUST!! --- Many earning Gen Y women were tricked by their husband. He says "EMI is huge I will pay for it. You pay for day to day expenses." She agrees thinking they are creating 'joint asset'. But she doesn't know that incase of divorce, she can't stake claim to that co-owned house. Because she doesn't have any proof that she actually paid money towards it. He will have clear bank trails of paying EMIs and down payments. And can easily say she was spending her salary for her own shopping. --- Jewellery belongs to you. Do you have any proof of loan taken against it? And that money being used for buying house? Do you remember how much total weight of gold+silver in those jewellery? Calculate current value and ask for it. Also if your parents paid for all marriage expenses & dowry, ask for return of those as well. Or you can just ask for some fixed amount as one time settlement. 2L per year(or more) for wasted 12 years of your youth. --- You are just in your 30s. You can still build your own life. Best wishes for that!!

Ok first of all mam do not apologise while confessing and there is not a single thing you have done wrong or said wrong here . Kudos to you for having the confidence to restart everything after 30 years old ..I'm not 30 but even i myself understand how exhausting and how tiring it must be to start everything from scratch.. Apart from court procedures and getting back everything what is rightfully urs is that please seek some sort of therapy ...Ur panic attacks and years of emotional trauma /abuse means that mentally u might be dealing with so many emotions .. Work on ur health and start building slowly ....hopefully within few years u will be happy and peaceful..and think of remarriage as well..if u meet the right person that is.. All the best mam

But people say laws are gender biased..... The truth is that, in the Indian Judiciary, only money speaks.
