My in-laws hid my husband's brain tumor and treat me terribly

Hi I'm 34f. It's been five years since I got married. Having 3yr year kid Before marriage I only think about studies apart from that I didn't know anything. It was arranged marriage. After marriage, a major shock hit my life. My husband had already undergone a kind of brain tumor surgery in early twenties. They hide the truth and got me married off and the tumour relapsed again after a year of marriage, we operated him again. When my dad questioned them everyone told that we forgot the incident because it was happened a long back. Daily hospital ICu so on ,my father was so worried about my life he passed away suddenly in heart attack. But I was with my husband for every procedure till now MRi,ct, radiotherapy it goes on every year. I stood with him in his difficult times. I live in a joint family almost 10 people mom in law,her sister family, mom in law brother, brother in law, sis in law with her child etc. Still now they treat me as an outsider everything in the house decided by his uncle and mother. Thanks to God I'm financially independent. They have almost 50 lakhs loan for house and sister marriage my husband paying that as alone. Very rarely he spends money for me and my daughter. My mom in law is a person she abuses verbally so bad, but she does all the house hold chores. She took care of me in my pregnancy with lot of verbal abuse. There was a argument between us for some simple things , she is instructing me that I have to obey her no matter what or else I should not talk back it is mandatory that I have to obey her else she ask me to get out of her home in a anger tone. I just told her I can obey somethings but not all. I'm not allowed to use the kitchen freely because it always occupied by mom in law and her sister. If I told my husband the incident he is asking me to ignore that and move on. I have constructed a new home near to my in law home but my husband is not ready to come there. Do I deserve this type of hatred and treatment from my in laws? Whatever they say I should not speak against them. I tolerated a lot. I lost my first baby, my dad, husband under medical condition. I'm ambitious too I want to do some higher studies it is not possible now . My husband is bald but before marriage he told he has kept some wig like thing in the head. I'm ok with that, but after marriage I came to know that he lost his hair because of treatment. Still now he is wearing some permanent wig. How much lies goes on. But the only ray of hope is my child and my mom. My mom only ask me everytime whether I had food or not. the rule they follow that my sis in law and her child can I stay here for months but I can't stay in my home for more than 3 days. I really love to cook and to serve others but I'm forbidden from using kitchen . But my husband is not even understanding this scenario my mom in law sister she is a such a headweight person she treated my very badly and rudely. I stopped talking to her more than a year. My child smile fading away all worries. I 'm also worried about my daughter a lot. I want to give her best education and good manners. But I'm staying positive. The only thing I'm unable to tolerate the disrespect towards me by the in laws. Hopefully one day everything will change. Thanks for reading

You’ve done more than enough. Financial independence is your power — use it. You built a home, now think about moving there with your daughter. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Therapy, higher studies, peace… you deserve all of it. And your husband needs to choose: be your partner or stay silent. Silence = permission.

I think nowadays Girls should be financially independent, as well as do some Karate / MMA higher rankings trainings. One two kicks can create huge difference on abusers. But yeah, move to your house.

Whatever you have is true then get out of that house, pursue whatever you want to do. Life is too short to waste on such people who don't value you especially when you stand with them in hard times.

Why don't you, your daughter and your mom start staying in new home which you have built nearby? Your husband can juggle between this house and his parents house.

take a strong decision for the sake of mental peace and move to ur home which u got...tell ur husband u r going to live there only and not going to come to his home again due to mental torture by everyone else in the home...tell him he can come anytime and start living with u but u cannot come there again...maybe once in a while for good and bad days u can come there but u will not live there anymore...take a strong stand on this and move with ur kid...ur mental peace is imp now, i understand how much stress u got now and how much u hate ur life...so for the betterment of ur kid and u move there immediately

You have already endured far more than anyone should. ❤️ Hiding such a serious medical history and then treating you like an outsider is deeply unfair. You deserve honesty, respect, and peace—not control and constant disrespect. Protect your daughter and your own peace, and don't feel guilty for setting boundaries. 🌸

Wow! Are you still living in the 1980's.. people used to live like this back then. Just leave the house. If you are a priority to your husband, he will follow. Else divorce him and live happily!

Anonymous21 August 2026 at 9:52 am

You already have hit the first goal. You got your own house. Forget husband. Move there with your daughter. Until and unless you move out, the situation is not going to change. Ask your mom to stay with you . Keep a helper. Both your mom and helper can take care of your daughter. Pursue your higher studies. Trust me.. your husband will dare not divorce you as he knows nobody else is gonna marry him with the medical condition he is having. Let him live with his family. There is no point in valuing a person who doesn't give you importance.

Move out to your place. Ask your mother to live with you.. But, first tell your husband this. And invite him to live with you. If he does, great . If not work out a deal where the two of you alternate homes. Some days here, some days there. Older women tend to be possessive about their kitchen space. You are educated and employed. Give them that space and be happy that you don't have to cook for everyone. Best wishes

Day time stay in the house you built. Only at night come to in laws house. Your husband can choose where he wants to stay.

"my sis in law and her child can stay here for months, but I am not allowed to stay in my home for more than 3 days" You see, it's all ego clashes and selfishness within women themselves 🤷‍♂️ You are just for a support in ur husband's life, not a life partner.
