31/M, I graduated with a B.E. in 2016, but because of backlogs, I completed my degree only by the end of 2018. I started preparing for government exams in 2019. Since then, I've attempted almost everything—Bank exams, SSC, TNPSC, and more. The hardest part to admit is that I wasn't consistent or serious enough with my preparation for a long time. At the same time, I was also struggling with my mental health, which made it even harder to stay focused and disciplined. Before I realized it, one year became another, and nearly a decade has gone by. Today, I'm 31 with no job, still preparing for SSC CGL, and I honestly don't know where my life is headed. I feel like I've lost my most valuable years chasing a dream without achieving the result I hoped for. I feel stuck, directionless, and overwhelmed. Watching my peers build careers and move forward while I'm still preparing has been incredibly difficult. I often wonder if I've made the biggest mistake of my life by putting all my time into this path. I'm sharing this because I genuinely need advice from people who may have been in a similar situation or found a way to rebuild their lives after years of setbacks. If you've been through something like this, how did you move forward? Should I continue preparing, or is it time to change direction? Thank you for reading. There is a japanese proverb which says , "If you get on the wrong train ,get off at the very next station. The longer you stay on it, your return trip will be more costly." . You are late to understand the capabilities of yours . The best option would be start some business.
Don't worry...whatever happened..happened..now get serious n start working towards your goal...I am sure u will achieve...
Same I was suffering but I took a decision and cracked state JE from electrical background. It will take time but with the right direction and strategy, you can make it..
Do a private job and keep trying, atleast that won't let you feel helpless, let alone worthless And maybe you should try some other hobbies, passions, or if you can do business, who knows where the aptitude is, keep exploring parallely.
Honestly, you have been misguided all this time. Never ever put all your eggs in one basket. At this time, only feasible option is starting a business.
You need to first assess the current situation and be honest with yourself. Try to understand your areas of interest. And why you want to do the govt services exams . I understand that govt jobs give you a good respect in society but there are other jobs that are good enough . Focus on yourself and decide on 1 or 2 options and focus on that and it should help in getting progress .
1.Join B.Ed and prepare for same exams. 2.If you could not clear it with B.Ed become an proper tutor. 3.After 2000 it is uncertain to run behind the government exams and trust it because there is many bunch of people running behind it.
My cousin brother did his graduation ( BA) in correspondence because he was not having enough marks to get a college in Delhi. He was a below average student. His father told him to start preparing for government exams simultaneously. He started it at 18 years of age. He was inconsistent, lazy and a big procrastinator. He tried his luck for around 10-11 years but was not able to find success. Just when he was about to give up at the age of 29 or 30, he finally cracked the government exam and he is now enjoying a successful life in Delhi where his wife is also having a government job and they live in a government flat in Sadiq Nagar. His qualification till date is just BA but he earns far more than what many MBA with 90 % and above marks cannot earn in private jobs.
Stop focusing on government jobs right now and stay focused on making necessary money by doing any jobs or take this way if you don’t want to give up , contribute focused 20% of your efforts to hunting gov job and remaining give to any kind of job gives you money and slowly move to better jobs .. please take this private jobs are not that bad .

These days it’s always better to have a job even though preparing for government exams. Even if government job exams couldn’t get cleared, this backup private job will become your main job. At this age, even if you are appearing government exams, you can spend less hours of serious preparation as you studied these many years and do some job suitable to your qualification

You are not alone. This may be one of answers you search for your question because you mentioned "people in similar situation". I cleared multiple exams, reached till counselling and came back with failures. Here is the answer, Truth is no one can exactly say who you are... or what you can... except yourself. Ask these questions to yourself. "Did I really put efforts to clear exams? Studied consistently and self evaluated regularly through any test series even if you are a self study aspirant? Can I able to clear upcoming exam if I rectified my previous mistakes? Can I put consistent effort for next attempt? Am I realy true to myself? If your answer is YES for these questions then you have to trust your process and you should have trust on yourself. lf your answer is "NO" to all these questions then it's time to change your direction. Keep one thing in mind. There is NO SHORTCUTS to get success. If you chose to continue govt exam preparation do it with proper guidance from a mentor or join in trusted coaching if required. Revise your strategy and trust yourself and your process. Evaluate your self regularly. Or accept your situation and change direction. Really it is not too late to change your direction. But you have to develop ONE SKILL if you chose private jobs. You have to choose that skill wisely depending upon your interest or what you can... Instead of asking others what to do spend sometime to understand your strength and weakness. You can ask suggestions from others but decision should be yours. This is optional but If required join a course in any institute which will support for placements, freelance help, interview guidance etc. Beware of fake institutes. Move to a place where you can find more opportunities. You spend a decade for exams. If you invested your time for developing a skill for next 3 to 6 months you can get what you need if you really dedicated and true to yourself. Don't worry if your initial salary or income is lower than your friends and others. If you get in to right track your growth will be exponential when compared to others. Keep this in mind. Learning and upskilling are lifelong process. Already you got enough experience and discipline for continuous learning during your preparation phase. Think out of box to search more opportunities. There are more opportunities beyond govt jobs, IT jobs, Banking jobs etc. You have to live your life instead of asking opinions of others. YOU NO NEED TO CONSIDER MY OPINION if you not satisfied with answer. Final Decision should be yours. Either continue your preparation if you true to yourself and you really thought you can do it or change your direction if you thought you cannot do.

Same story here but I improved myself with each failure and got CGL 18 cleared in my third attempt. Keep having faith brother and do give mock test to know where do you stand.

Ratio of job seekers:jobs in government is abysmal, statistically it's almost zero. Try and get employed in private sector.
