I kept my neighbor's affair a secret to help her escape

For many years, I have been carrying such a secret. I got married in 2004. I became very close friends with the neighbour's wife next door. She got married through an arranged marriage in 1999 at the young age of just 21. For nearly a decade, she spent her life without any joy; she was trapped in a marital relationship that brought her no fulfillment, and they had no children either. Her husband remained emotionally detached from her a few years after the marriage, probably getting bored with the same woman. Everything changed in 2007. I came to know that she had gotten involved in a relationship with another man, a man who was two years younger than her. Initially, my reaction was intense anger and dissatisfaction. A sense of betrayal towards the neighbour's family was disturbing me. But after the initial shock wore off, I thought about her deeply unhappy state and understood how many years she had been going through a painful situation. Instead of exposing her in front of everyone, I tried to understand her. I decided that I would keep her relationship with that other man a secret. I became her confidant. I kept the news of their private meetings a secret. They used to meet at his minimalist apartment on specified dates. She used to tell me how much they loved eachother. She confessed to me that her lover not only made her physically gratified but also emotionally which she valued more as a fulfilled woman. I felt that there was nothing wrong with loving and becoming close to another man while being trapped in an unhappy married life. In 2008, the situation took a final turn. She ultimately decided to leave her husband and filed for divorce. She left home and started living in her lover's apartment. Her husband broke down completely over this separation. I felt very bad for him, but the reality was undeniable: she loved someone else. By 2009, their divorce became final, and she married her lover. The following year i.e. 2010, a beautiful baby boy came into their lives. Even today, I still maintain close contact with her. Seeing her live a completely happy, fulfilled, and beautiful life now with her husband and son fills my heart with peace. The boy has made an excellent result in the 10th board exam. Even though the step she took back then had caused her first husband a lot of pain, looking at the joyful household she has built makes me feel that my decision to support her was right. Her ex-husband also gradually composed himself over time.

You can be happy that your friend eventually found peace, but that doesn't make the affair the right choice. An unhappy marriage is a valid reason to seek separation or divorce, not to start another relationship while still married. Keeping someone's secret is one thing, but helping hide an affair makes you part of the deception. The healthier path would have been to encourage her to end the marriage first, then begin a new relationship openly. A good ending doesn't automatically justify the way it began.

Nothing to blame her here, it's the husband's fault who did not treat her properly. The only thing we can blame her for is the time she took to decide is late. She should have taken the decision once she got into another relationship.

In the name of supporting her illegal, you are the culprit of spoiling their family. What if your wife does and neighbour man supports her????

Thats a good ending but... Remeber the husband was not a sane man he would have shot her...... Having affair while married is not good.... If things were not working then she would have divorced.....

I hope your wife does the same behind your back. If she wasn't happy she should have divorced her husband first before sleeping with another man
