#C27587 Need some genuine advice. Male, mid-thirties, working in IT. Been in the same company for over a decade now. Lately I'm feeling quite lost regarding my career. Most of my experience has been in support projects and because of that I never really got strong hands-on exposure to the technologies that are in demand today. I am trying to learn and improve myself, but sometimes I feel I'm too far behind compared to others. There is also some uncertainty regarding my current project, which has made me think seriously about what I should do next. The strange thing is money is not my biggest concern anymore. Even if I earn much less than what I'm earning today, I think I can manage. I have saved reasonably well over the years. What bothers me more is the thought of becoming irrelevant or not having any meaningful work to do. I've always been good at maths, reasoning and English. Because of that, sometimes I wonder whether I should continue in IT, try for some government opportunity, or look at a completely different path. At the same time, after spending more than a decade in the industry, starting from scratch also feels scary. Another thing that worries me is AI and how quickly things are changing in IT. Maybe I'm overthinking, but I sometimes feel people with a support background could find it harder to stay relevant in the coming years. If anyone has faced a similar situation earlier, or has any suggestions on how I should approach this phase of my career, please share your thoughts in the comments. It would be really helpful.

AI will replace all developer jobs, if someone doesnt know how to ride AI and use in his work.

I feel your thoughts, concerns and worries are real. And it is understandable feeling this way after being in the same field for some years. Leaving everything and starting something entirely new from scratch might be scary and it comes with its own set of worries, problems and setbacks. What I would suggest is, sit down with a cut of coffee, pen and paper. List down all the things you are good at which can get you some other work/business or something. That will give you a genuine idea about your strengths and weaknesses. Apart from that, what I would do is, I would start something small side by side my job... Maybe building something online, starting my own business or doing something part time, for let's say..6 months or something.see where you stand. It's like tasting the waters before you jump into the pond. Then if you see it paying off, you can think of doing it full time. Hope this helps.

IT industry is likely to pay lesser as time goes by. However, if IT is directly connected to hot fields like logistics, manufacturing, agriculture etc , that IT will stay relevant. You can follow Dr Ankit Shah on X or listen to his talks on YouTube to understand which IT will stay relevant. You can connect with him to get insight for your future.
