#C27058 M35 – Need Suggestions I am an IIT graduate, and after graduation I joined one of the top MNCs in Pune as a software developer. I worked there for 10 years. During that time, the company grew very rapidly, and so did the value of my RSUs(stocks that I got from company as compensation). Last year, I decided to take early retirement because I had made enough money and achieved financial independence(way more than I needed). To be honest, work was mainly a way for me to earn money, although I was doing quite well in my company. Early retirement was always my dream, and achieving it felt amazing. I bought a good house in Pune, own a BMW, and overall life has been very comfortable so far. My wife is still working. Money is no longer a concern for us, but she wants to continue her career, and I completely respect her choice. However, because of her job, we need to stay in Pune rather than move back to my native place. Now the problem is that after almost a year of retirement, I am starting to feel bored staying at home the whole day(Main reason might be I don’t have friends here, I don’t know local people here may be due to flat culture or language barrier) and my office colleagues are mostly in their native places (my company still has WFH facility). Before retirement, I used to think I would spend my time traveling, doing activities, and enjoying life. I do all of those things, but practically they are short-term engagements. For example, I went on three international trips last year, but that still covered only around 25–30 days out of the entire year. I genuinely don’t know what to do during the remaining days. I also tried joining dance classes, guitar classes, gym, etc., but most of these are only 1-hour sessions a few days a week, and they are not really helping. I know this might sound like an odd problem to have, but this is the practical situation I am currently in. So please suggest some ideas or activities I can pursue in pune, or may be some groups I can join(in-fact any type of things in pune which I can do to engage myself on daily basis) Note: I have already explored most of the touristic places, so “explore in and around pune” is also not an option for me Things I enjoy: - Meeting new people - Photography - Travelling

You sound like someone a lot of us aspire to be... So congratulations first of all!! One thing I can suggest is pick up a hobby... I hsve been where u are and that's when I picked up the hobby of scale model collecting. Through it I met a lot of like minded petrolheads and others, ppl from all walks of life..... Recently we had a meetup in Pune where more than 400 ppl came... Go for something like this which appeals to you.
There is something called giving back to the society.. when self content is achieved, surely time to give back. Social service, teaching, mentoring coaching helps change other people's lives and brings joy and satisfaction
At Pune-start running and simultaneously weight training along with.Trust me…you’ll not regret picking up running ever and also you will get the opportunity to meet best of the best people from different walks of life and so much more.Register for races accordingly,do marathon training course as well to understand it better. You’ll have lots of linked activities too. Pune is running capital of India too. This will tick all 3 from your list and a purpose to look at on daily basis

Donate money to charity bro.. Keep some amount for yourself. You can rethink about life..
You need to go deeper into your subconscious and inner child. As a child we had no issues exploring our unknown self. As we grow up, our sconsicous self gets conditioned and our true desires gets buried in the subconscious. It also pertains to inner child wounds and how they create a sense of void disguised as boredom. I work with HNWIs to help them unlock their life purpose in alignment with their epigentics and childhood wounds. DM if interested
I can very well relate to it. We are sailing in the same boat. You can start something online related to training, guiding, teaching, volunteering etc. this will keep you positively engaged.
Why dnt u get associate with any. Organisation that gives coach under previliged kids to clear many competitive exams that help them to improve.. Your ur going to gv ur knowledge and experience that u ve gained..... Little contribution
Get a job and build a school, build shelters for animals, build old age home, orphanages , help women who have nowhere to go because of abusive relationships. There are a hundred things you can do if you can look beyond you. Help government schools where roofs are leaking and children are barefoot….get the idea…. Humans are so self cantered that they get bored after playing with all the toys …
Would be happy to talk to you! Can DM me. Would be in pune for sometime and can tell u to work something interesting !
Wah bro you seem so nice.. umm .. I'm in Pune too let's hang out some day. I'm a writer.. maybe you'd have some amazing stories to share.. and about the relocation thing your wife's decision counts too .. so you have to give her time..
Help people by guiding them how to explore a good job and the real skill required for a job
open a cafe or restaurant and sit there meet people
Start cooking for your wife and kids... Do housework, cleaning, organising and beautifying your house... Go to your nearest park and make friends and gossip with the people there, about their life and their experiences... Also share yours... Enjoy your retirement to the fullest as you have worked hard to achieve it...
Not having friends nearby is something I understand fully well. I live in Pune too and have had the same issue. Well done on the early retirement though. Try and see if you would like to pick up on trading. More out of curiosity than to earn money in your case for sure. Growing microgreens. (Will be helping in eating healthy) A lady in a comment above talked about coaching poor for free..that will be amazing. I can help you get in touch with an NGO where I worked, before joining IT. Infact they need volunteers for an hour or two to teach Math in highschool right now.
Pune has handful of volunteering organisations who want to save the nature, empower rural communities, health care , education etc., Not as a task but a hobby - Your skills and experience to those to build a respectful society is a meaningful way to contribute
Start taking care of household chores. You won't know where your time went.
Plan kids now, teach about life to your child just as your parents did for you. It will be a life long commitment. You canbe a stay at home dad. 😊
Mentor others best options start a school or something. Or build open source system as you don't need money so you can give it free to all.
do one thing...give all ur money to me and u start working again then u wont feel bored :P
1. Volunteer 2. Join a photography course. Ooty has a good one if you are open to staying there. 3. Read
Teach people and me how you got financial Freedom at the age of 35. That's really helpful to people who wants to achieve the same.
What about your children? Taking care of the children itself a big entertainment.
may be try competing for "ironman" or try prep to reach first base camp of mt everest, or create a bucket list for urself and tick mark each of them ✌️✌️
Pursue a free lancing job. Maybe as a guest lecture in some college or University. Or a coaching centre. Do something which excites you. I am also moving in the line of yours retiring early. Read lots of books. Write books or even blogs or columns for newspapers. Spread your knowledge.
Well I can guide in my own way because I belong to this industry. Join a good theatre if you find your interest in acting. There will be good theatres in Pune. If you do then most of your day will easily be spent in rehearsals and then live shows. Rest is being advised by everyone here in their ways which is also helpful.
Change the way you think and there will be a paradigm shift in your outlook towards life. You have problem of plenty. Take a day out and go to an anaath ashram (orphanage) and an old age home. Meet the old people who don't have any visitors to call their own. Look into their eyes, whenever someone enters their old age home, they hope against hope that it could be someone (blood relation) coming to meet them finally and see the dryness in their eyes when they realise that, no one is going to come to see them, forget talking to them. See the young orphan kids jostling for one plate of rice with a running almost watery side dish to conquer their hunger, knowing well that next meal may come today or tomorrow or later. See their torn shirts tucked in half way, trying to write with a 2 inch broken pencil. After this, plan a trip to Varanasi, go to ghat where they burn the dead bodies, life goes on nearby, few mourners waiting with their relative's dead body to cremate once the burning body is reduced to ashes, another body placed there. First body could be of a roadside beggar, second one could be that of a rich man, flames swallowing both bodies at quick speed, all the money, ego, pride, poverty, hunger, all the differences between the 1st body and 2nd body across the spectrum of life reduced to ashes in couple of minutes. You will realise, that life goes on regardless....nobody belongs to anybody, all the world is full of dust particles and we are part of the dust, merging into the nature. You will realise that it is a selfish world and nobody actually lives for anybody, everyone having their own issues. All whom we meet offline or online were destined to leave - either we leave first or they leave first. Born from zero and back to zero, one full circle. After all these visits ... Go on a meditation course, help the unfortunates and the needy, you will see a purpose of your life. I have ideas, plenty of them with lifetime of experience but not the wherewithal to make the change, many have the money power without any idea for the society. It is a tragic world ....@followers @highlight
You're from IIT. Time and Money is not an issue . Travel 50-60 kms away from Pune. You'd find rural India with a lot of real world problems. Study them over a period of time and find real world solutions for them.
Do some volunteering work, pick up a purpose like changing 10k lives, or build something or mentor people, everything that doesn’t have a. Purpose will make u feel empty
Develop some hobbies of your interest. I have interest in astrology so I can pursue it likewise develop something you can do which u will enjoy. Secondly you can try help animals or people who are suffering which can give some purpose. Develop friends who are like-minded as you with whom u spend time. If u have kids spend more time with them. Hope it helps
Do nothing Breathe slowly Drink plenty of water. Having a job is not just for the salary hope you have realized it. Start small businesses and institutionalize that so that they generate profit without your time and effort. Replicate success.
This is odd. But it's necessity for me .Ive 2 yrs of exp as Java backend developer. But j have gap of 1.5 yrs due to personal reasons. Could anyone pls refer me in your company.
I envy you. Specially when you say you have a BMW yet you just explored “in and around Pune”. Get on the wheels and explore every corner of India, man. This will cover “boredom” of at least 2 years if you explore this vast landscapes, which also qualifies your interest of “meeting new people” and “photography”

Your story is truly motivating — achieving financial independence so early is no small feat. I can see why the “what next?” question feels tricky now. Since you enjoy meeting new people, photography, and travelling, one unique idea is to channel those interests into helping society. Pune’s traffic is a daily challenge for all of us, and volunteers who step up to assist with traffic awareness or arrangement at busy signals often make a real difference. Imagine combining your hobbies with this: • Photography at signals — capture the human stories of commuters, vendors, and everyday chaos. • Community traffic volunteering — coordinate with local police or NGOs to help manage flow and spread awareness. • Social campaigns — use your photos and experiences to run small awareness drives online or in your housing society. • Meet new people daily — traffic points are surprisingly social hubs; you’ll interact with locals, officers, and fellow volunteers. This way, you’re not only keeping yourself engaged but also giving back to the city you’re living in. It’s purposeful, people-centric, and blends perfectly with your love for photography and meeting new faces.
Coach peopl3 like me who wants to gain financial freedom. Now you should target the top layer of maslow's hiearchy
Please teach poor students since u have very good knowledge
Very obvious, what will you do from the age of just 35, without a job or a specific involvement in life, just sitting & spending time at home?? This is not how life should be.Joining back will be the wiser decision. If you don't like jobs, do something else. And one more thing, money is always needed, it is never enough. So, the inflow of money should not be stopped
I think ypu should go back to job,

First of all congratulations on achieving what you wanted. While many of us still dream of retirement and it is a long way ahead of us, you have settled well with your talents and hardwork. Man is designed to be active both mentally and physically till they get really old. Having a list of things to do tomorrow makes a purpose to wake up every morning. Here are a few things you can do. * Free lance and work whenever you want. * Join any NGO and teach their people your skills. * Buy farm land outside Pune and develop a place for yourself. Cultivate trees, build a simple house to stay whenever you want. You can spend a couple of days there and rest in Pune. * You could also research on some social issues around you and see if you can come up with a solution. You need a lot of time and field work.

As another IITan, i faced the same boredom issue. Tried starting a company (surprisingly got funding easily), but it had to be shut down. Kept me busy and away from big corp rat race. I like gardening, and doing some solo hikes in the mountains near (1 hour drive). I'd like to learn a new foreign language (to speak) like Spanish but that is hard for me. I'd like to do a solo "backpacker" trip (i.e. no high class hotels and spendy restaurants -- the way i travelled when i was a student). I aspire to be a writer but I don't think I can (yes I read a lot)..best wishes.
